Absolutely Winederful tour – incentives Basque Country and La Rioja
At the beginning of July one of our incentive groups made a wine tour through the Basque Country and La Rioja which was especially tailor made for them. Starting with an extended visit of Bilbao and of course a visit to the Guggenheim, then to the surroundings among others the Automobile Museum of Vintage Cars they also enjoyed some of Bilbao’s Michelin star restaurants. Then they headed to La Rioja with accommodation at the beautiful Hotel Viura. From here the group visited during two days some of the most renowned vineries of the well-known area. The most impressions made i.a. the Bodega Lopez de Heredia which stands for tradition – an example of the most perfect combination of buildings and vineyards. Like many medieval masterpieces, still incomplete, the buildings stand below and above ground – a genuine “Cathedral to wine”. Browsing through the vaulted underground corridors and staircases, they found themselves travelling back in time, and the founder’s touch can still be sensed in the very stones and fabric of the building. The Bodega Baigorri did not only impress with its modern architecture but also with the 6 course tasting menu accompanied by 4 of their wines. And then the Bodega Campo Viejo – which is not only one of the largest vineries but also has one of the most innovative Bodega in La Rioja. The new Bodega was opened in 2001 and is situated on a plateau it permits also a stunning view over the vineyards and the town of Logroño. The Bodega itself stands for a harmonious balance between winemaking, architecture and sustainability offering a large selection of wines. Afterwards the group proceeded to San Sebastian on the coast of Biscay. The beautiful Old Quarters, the beaches and gourmet restaurants made it absolutely the perfect ending for this “Winederful” tour.
